Husband and wife team, Claire and Max Vaughan are celebrating after White Peak Distillery won the New Tourism Business Award in the 2020 Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards.
White Peak Distillery is delighted to have been recognised in last week’s 2020 Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards. The Distillery picked up Gold in the New Tourism Business category at a ceremony held at Buxton’s iconic Devonshire Dome.
White Peak Distillery featured amongst some of the most talented and committed tourism businesses in the region, a sector which generates £2.3 billion, supports 30,000 jobs and attracts 42 million visitors annually. There were 31 businesses short-listed for the awards evening, including Myguidedwalks and Tagg Lane Dairy for new tourism business.
Max and Claire are passionate about all things Peak District & Derbyshire, a major factor in returning to a place where they grew up to bring up their own young family in 2010. Who knew, less than a decade later, they would be making the region’s first single malt whisky and would be working with a growing tourism sector, so important to the economic health of the area.
The Distillery opened its doors to visitors in September 2018. It was always part of the plan to create a destination, not only to make the finest single malt Derbyshire whisky but to also make the most of the visitor experience. The still house layout was designed to make it suitable to bring groups of visitors into our historic buildings, and to allow them to get up close and personal to our whisky-making, as well as our talented whisky-makers.
We are continuing to build on the experiences we offer, including our dedicated whisky tours and gin & tapas evenings, all bookable on our website.
